Puerto de la Cruz  Escape Room Experience

Adventure Hunt is a new way to explore, enjoy a stroll and have some fun in the Puerto de la Cruz sun.

Adventure Hunt is a new outdoor escape room experience in Puerto de la Cruz. It is similar to escape rooms and scavenger hunts. Each puzzle uses items in plain sight.  They might be murals, statues, buildings or landmarks.  The questions are designed to make you think and pay attention, making for a fun group activity.

Den Adventure Hunt-appen helps you navigate between puzzles without simply asking you to follow a dot on a map.  Hints can be used if you need assistance solving any of the puzzles.  The App is available on both Android og iPhone.

In Puerto de la Cruz you can choose between two completely different routes. The standard route uses a variety of objects and locations for its puzzles and explores a larger area of the town. The street art Adventure Hunt is 100% focused on the street art and stays within the old town.

If you can´t decide, then do both!

The Puerto de la Cruz Adventure Hunt route consists of 20 clues spread over 2km around the highlights of Puerto. The route takes in the old town filled with restaurants, murals and narrow streets, the main church plaza, the waterfront boardwalk and other pedestrian areas. Challenge yourself and have a great time with friends and family.

Adventure Hunt´s puzzles help you explore deeper into your surroundings and ensure you see some of the hidden secrets we have found for you. Our clues and puzzles are all "hiding in plain sight" but easily missed. The route we have created is also a great introduction to the town, starting by the harbour on bateria Santa Barbara, walking around the harbour past the customs house and the harbour. We then loop through the old  town, passing some of the narrow restaurant lined streets, with a few puzzles to keep you challenged and entertained. Will you be able to find the statue of a little man? And the watchful lion?

We then move into Plaza del charco, and on towards one of the many churches and plazas that are common in Puerto de la Cruz. After finding the hidden art we then move into the main church and solve a puzzle about one of Puerto´s famous citizens. From here we move onto the boardwalk next to Lago Martinez and follow it until the end of the Adventure overlooking playa Martinez.

We also have Adventure Hunts in La Laguna, Santa Cruz, El Medano, Costa Adeje og Los Abrigos. Be sure to follow Adventure Hunt on Facebook or Instagram to stay informed.

Puerto de la Cruz FAQ

Is Adventure Hunt Puerto de la Cruz an escape room?

Adventure Hunt Puerto de la Cruz is not an escape room. It is a fun experience with similar challenges and is enjoyable for people who enjoy escape rooms or solving puzzles.  Everything takes place outside, at your own pace – there is no race against the clock.  In fact, we encourage people to take a break for a drink or something to eat and enjoy the lovely surroundings that the Adventure Hunt is set in.

Den virkelige likheten er at oppgavene krever en viss grad av samarbeid og kreativ tenkning.

Escape rooms provide an immersive experience with a story and an end goal. Adventure Hunt does not have a story or end goal as you progress, and we allow the surroundings to provide the immersion.

Is Adventure Hunt a walking tour of Puerto de la Cruz?

The Adventure Hunt in Puerto de la Cruz visits many of the same locations as you would see on a guided walking tour. But Adventure Hunt is not a replacement for a walking tour, as we do not try to provide historical or artistic information. Our goal is a fun experience in an interesting location. You are of course always free to stop and read all of the signs and plaques as you pass along our route as there is never any time pressure. If you are looking to learn about the town in detail then we recommend a walking tour.

Is This New Puerto de la Cruz escape room experience suitable for families?

Yes, Adventure Hunt is great for families, and we mean that in the widest possible sense. Grandparents and children alike will enjoy Adventure Hunt.

The Puerto de la Cruz Adventure Hunts are available in English, Spanish, German, Dutch, French, Italian and Portuguese.

About Puerto de la Cruz

The city’s origins date back to the early 16th century. It existed in 1502 as a coastal port, and as the dependent population center of La Orotava. In 1603 a church and its corresponding square were built.

It was originally a fishing village that grew as local trade was increasing. The port became the most important on the island when a volcano eruption destroyed Garachico in 1706. The sugar trade gave way to wine, resulting in large-scale social and economic development.

In the mid-17th century, the inhabitants began to express their desire to form their own community, receiving the Royal Provision of Felipe IV on 3 May 1651, which empowered them to appoint a village head.

It belonged to the municipality of La Orotava, and in 1772, a municipal corporation was elected by the residents. It was known as Puerto de La Orotava, and it was not until 1808 that it obtained full municipal autonomy, changing its name to the current Puerto de la Cruz.

Tourism began to have an important role in the local economy in the late 19th century. It was in those years that the Grand Hotel Taoro was built and that old family houses began to be remodelled, for example as Marquesa or Monopol, transforming them into the first hotels in the city center. Finally, the real tourism boom came in the 1950s, when the city began its transformation into the tourist reference point of the island and of the archipelago.

Historical Buildings

Two of the most well known historical buildings in Puerto de la Cruz are the Batería de Santa Bárbara fort in Puerto de la Cruz and the customs house, both located near the town harbour. The Bateria was constructed in the 18th century in order to protect the town from pirate attacks. The structure consisted of a gunpowder warehouse, several cannons, and a guardhouse. The foundation of the battery was built of stones which made it impregnable. Even pirate rifles couldn’t destroy the fort, leaving only potholes in the wall.

The barracks on the north side of the building were designed for six soldiers who were permanently stationed there to be on guard. In the late 18th century, the fortress was fortified again. The fortification was rebuilt and restored in the following years and has survived to this day in excellent condition.

The customs house dates from 1620 and is the oldest of this type of building in the centre of Puerto de la Cruz. It has a also at one time housed the British consulate.

Lago Martinez

Lago Martinez dominates the seafront in the modern part of Puerto de la Cruz. It was started in 1971 and completed in 1977. All of the pools are seawater, and are regularly emptied and refilled from the sea, so its temperature is seldom considered warm. Architect César Manrique designed the swimming pool complex with many volcanic rocks. Lago Martiánez is a mix of Manrique’s vision and local elements, such as bartizans, palisades and ocean views. In addition to the architectural structure, it also comprises a range of Manrique’s sculptures.

Street Art

In 2014, the Puerto de la Cruz town council supported the “Puerto Street Art” Pilot Project for the Improvement of the Urban Environment through Artistic Interventions, thus taking the first steps towards the creation of an urban art museum. The art is mostly located in the old town which is a great area to wander around. You will never be far from a bar or restaurant, so you can take a break when ever you like!
