Palma Escape Room Experience

Palma Adventure Hunt is a new shore excursion – a fun way to explore, enjoy a stroll, and have some fun in Palma. Only 19.50€ per group.

Adventure Hunt is a self-guided outdoor escape room through the historic streets of Palma. It is a cross between a walking tour, an escape room, and a scavenger hunt. Each puzzle is based on features you will find in plain sight. They might be murals, buildings, landmarks, water features, statues, play areas, or information boards. The questions are designed to make you think and pay attention, making for a fun group activity. Unlike a traditional walking tour, the puzzles encourage you to notice details that most visitors would simply walk past. Book online then start whenever you like. There are no guides or fixed departure times. Available in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch, with each booking covering a group of up to six people.

The Adventure Hunt app guides you between puzzles without simply asking you to follow a dot on a map, making the journey itself part of the adventure. The app runs on your own Android eller iPhone, so there is no need to collect equipment or meet a guide before you start.

Explore entirely at your own pace. Stop whenever you like for a drink, a meal or to admire the sights, then continue whenever you're ready—even the next day if you wish. Hints are available for every puzzle, so you can always continue your adventure.

This adventure starts near Palma's historic Cathedral, under the shade of a giant rubber tree. From here, the route winds through the narrow streets and historic squares of the old town, taking in areas around Plaça de Cort, Plaça Major, La Rambla, Sant Miquel and the bustling Mercat de l'Olivar before looping back towards the Cathedral. Along the way you'll encounter grand avenues, hidden corners, statues, churches, historic buildings and some of the city's most characterful streets. It is just over 3km long and has 23 clues to solve along the way. Solving the clues will unlock the fascinating 2,000-year history of Palma, and sometimes its grisly secrets. It's almost flat, with only gentle gradients. It's a circular route, and you will finish just across the road from the starting point. The final section includes some short sections of stairway, which won't be suitable for wheelchair users, but it's possible to take a diversion that is step-free.

Adventure Hunt is ideal for friends, couples, families or colleagues. It is a great way to spend 1.5 to 2 hours—or longer if you stop along the way. Bring water, maybe a snack, and enjoy the journey at your own pace. If you prefer to enjoy some local food or refreshments along the way, you'll be in the perfect area of the city to do so, with restaurants and bars galore! To make sure everyone is engaged, we suggest groups of 2 to 4 participants. If your group is larger, split into smaller teams for a fun, friendly competition. Gather your friends or family, challenge your minds, and discover Palma, the historic capital of the Balearic Islands, in a brand new way. Adventure is waiting! Are you ready?

Palma FAQ

Is Adventure Hunt Palma a Walking Tour?

Adventure Hunt Palma is a walking tour for some people. If you are looking to see many of the main sights of the old town in Palma independently, learn a few interesting facts, and want to avoid being part of a larger group, then Adventure Hunt is a good option for you.  You will have complete flexibility to stop at all of the points of interest for as long as you like. Most of the places of interest have detailed information plaques outside so you can learn and read as much or as little as you like. You will also have some puzzles to solve to keep you entertained and challenged! The main difference between Adventure Hunt Palma and a traditional walking tour is that with Adventure Hunt, there are puzzles to solve, and the primary emphasis is on having fun. If you prefer in-depth historical information and/or a live guide, then a dedicated walking tour is better for you.

Is the Palma escape room experience suitable for families?

Ja, Adventure Hunt er perfekt for familier.

Is the Palma Adventure Hunt an escape room?

The Adventure Hunt is not an escape room, but it is a fun experience with similar challenges that need some teamwork and lateral thinking. It is very enjoyable for people who enjoy escape rooms. Everything takes place outside, at your own pace – there is no race against the clock. In fact, we encourage people to take a break for a drink, or something to eat and enjoy the lovely surroundings that the Adventure Hunt is set in.

Are the clues complicated?

About Palma

ORIGINS

Palma has been an important settlement for more than 2,000 years. The Romans founded the city in 123 BC following their conquest of Mallorca, although the area had been inhabited long before their arrival. Its position beside a large natural bay made it an important port and trading centre.

The city changed considerably during the centuries that followed. Under Muslim rule from the 10th century, Palma, then known as Madina Mayurqa, became one of the main cities of the western Mediterranean. In 1229, King James I of Aragon conquered Mallorca and the city became part of the Christian Kingdom of Mallorca. Churches, palaces and civic buildings gradually replaced or incorporated earlier structures, creating much of the historic centre that can be explored today.

THE OLD TOWN

Palma’s old town developed around the Cathedral and the former royal palace beside the waterfront. From here, a network of narrow streets spreads inland towards squares including Plaça de Cort and Plaça Major. Parts of the city still follow street patterns established during the medieval period.

For centuries Palma was enclosed by substantial defensive walls. These were gradually demolished during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as the city expanded. Inside the former walls are churches, convents, courtyards, merchant houses and public buildings from different periods of Palma’s history. Walking through the centre today, Roman, Islamic, medieval and later influences can all be found within a relatively small area.

HIGHLIGHTS OF PALMA

All of the highlights mentioned below are on the Adventure Hunt – Palma Highlights route. Below is a little background on each of these highlights.

PALMA CATHEDRAL

Palma Cathedral, commonly known as La Seu, dominates the waterfront and is one of the city’s best-known landmarks. Construction began in the 13th century following the Christian conquest of Mallorca and continued for several centuries. The building is particularly known for its large rose window and its position overlooking the Parc de la Mar. Antoni Gaudí was also involved in alterations to the interior during the early 20th century.

PLAÇA DE CORT

Plaça de Cort has long been at the centre of civic life in Palma. The square is home to Palma Town Hall, a 17th-century building with a distinctive façade and projecting wooden roof. In the centre of the square stands an old olive tree which was moved here in 1989 and has become a well-known Palma landmark.

PLAÇA MAJOR

Plaça Major occupies the site of the former headquarters of the Spanish Inquisition in Mallorca. The present square was developed during the 19th century following the demolition of the earlier buildings. Today it is one of the main public spaces in the old town and provides a link between several of Palma’s busiest pedestrian streets.

MERCAT DE L’OLIVAR

Mercat de l’Olivar opened in 1951 and remains one of Palma’s main food markets. Located close to Plaça d’Espanya, its stalls sell fish, meat, fruit, vegetables and other local produce. It provides a contrast to the older monuments on the route and is still very much part of everyday life in the centre of Palma.
