Adventure Hunt currently has outdoor escape room experiences across the Algarve, from Praia da Luz and Lagos in the west to Faro and Olhão further east. You can explore historic old towns, fishing villages, waterfronts, street art, beaches and some of the Algarve’s less obvious corners along the way.

All Adventure Hunts are designed by someone who lives locally. This is an important part of what we do. We use interesting features, highlights and hidden gems that we have found locally to create the puzzles. They might use a building, statue, mural, sign, information plaque or something else that most people simply walk straight past.

Adventure Hunt combines elements of outdoor escape rooms, scavenger hunts and treasure trails. You don’t need any special knowledge. The answers are around you; you just need to look, think and sometimes pay attention to the smaller details.

The Adventure Hunt App guides you from one puzzle to the next without simply asking you to follow a dot on a map. Finding your way is part of the adventure. Hints are available if you get stuck, and the App runs on your own Android or iPhone, so there is no equipment to collect and no guide to meet.

Book online and start whenever you like. There are no fixed departure times and no tour group to join. Stop for a coffee, lunch, an ice cream or a trip to the beach and continue when you’re ready. There really is no need to rush.

Each booking covers a group of up to six people, although we recommend 2-4 so that everyone stays involved. Adventure Hunt is available in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch.

Alvor

Alvor is a great choice if you fancy exploring a traditional fishing village. The route follows the palm tree-lined riverfront before heading into the narrow streets of the old quarter, with views across the Odiáxere estuary along the way.

There are 20 puzzles spread over approximately 2 km. You’ll see the fishing huts, old castle ruins and church, as well as some of the village’s fishing heritage. Alvor is also a particularly good place to stop for seafood along the way – especially the locally produced oysters.

Lagos

There are two completely different Adventure Hunts in Lagos, each with its own route and puzzles.

The first explores the historic town. It takes you along the ancient city walls, through the busy streets and squares of the old town and around the harbourfront. If you want a general introduction to Lagos and some of its history, choose this one.

The second is all about street art. Lagos has some fantastic murals, including work by artists from across Europe. This Adventure Hunt takes you looking for everything from huge murals to small stencils and, of course, the puzzles make sure you actually look at the artwork rather than simply walking past it.

If you have time, do both. They show you two very different sides of Lagos.

Praia da Luz

Praia da Luz is a smaller and more relaxed option. The 2 km route follows the beachfront and then heads through the cobbled streets of the village, with 18 puzzles along the way.

You’ll see the beach, whitewashed houses, the distinctive Rocha Negra cliffs, the historic church and even some Roman remains. There are also plenty of places along the seafront to stop for lunch, a coffee or an ice cream.

Portimão

Portimão takes you away from the resort beaches and into the city itself. The approximately 2 km route explores the Ribeirinha waterfront and the older streets of Portimão.

Look for details amongst the marble statues along the promenade, decorative murals, historic buildings and churches. This is a good choice if you know Praia da Rocha but have never really explored Portimão itself.

Albufeira

There are two completely different Adventure Hunts in Albufeira.

Die Old Town Adventure Hunt takes you through the beachfront area, winding streets, main square and clifftop promenade. It’s the one to choose if you want to explore the older side of Albufeira and enjoy some great sea views along the way.

Die Strip Adventure Hunt couldn’t be much more different. This one explores Avenida Sá Carneiro and the streets around Albufeira’s famous nightlife area. Do it in the morning when everything is relatively quiet, or head out on a summer evening amongst the lights, music and busy bars.

Or do one during the day and the other in the evening!

Faro

Faro is the capital of the Algarve, but plenty of visitors fly into its airport and never actually explore the city.

The Adventure Hunt takes you from the medieval Cidade Velha and its cobbled streets to the shopping district, São Pedro and the palm-lined harbour. Along the way there is street art, interesting architecture, old city walls and even white storks nesting above the city.

If you’ve never stopped to explore Faro properly, this gives you a good reason to do it.

Olhão

Olhão has a character all of its own. The route starts by the ferry dock and explores the narrow lanes of the Fishermen’s Quarter, pedestrian streets and waterfront overlooking the Ria Formosa.

Look out for the town’s distinctive white cubist buildings, murals celebrating its fishing heritage and the sculptures along the Caminho das Lendas. The famous red-domed market is here too, and there are plenty of places to try some local seafood.

Quarteira

Quarteira combines a long beachfront and promenade with a busy traditional town. The Adventure Hunt takes you away from simply following the seafront and gets you looking more closely at the buildings, streets, public spaces and other details around the town.

It is a good choice if you are staying around Quarteira or nearby Vilamoura and want an outdoor activity that lets you explore at your own pace.

Which Algarve Adventure Hunt should you choose?

If you want a historic town, Lagos Old Town oder Faro are good choices. For a smaller fishing village, try Alvor, while Praia da Luz gives you a compact seaside route with less walking.

For something a bit different, choose the Lagos Street Art Adventure Hunt. In Albufeira, you can decide between the traditional Old Town and the very different atmosphere of the Strip. Portimão is a good excuse to explore the city rather than heading straight to Praia da Rocha, while Olhão is a great choice if you want to discover the Ria Formosa and a more traditional Algarve fishing town. Quarteira is a good choice if you want to combine a beachfront setting with exploring a traditional Algarve town.

Or simply start with whichever Adventure Hunt is closest to you. They are all designed around their individual locations, so if you enjoy one, try another. The puzzles and things you discover will be completely different.
