Adventure Hunt currently has outdoor escape room experiences across the Algarve, from Praia da Luz and Lagos in the west to Faro and Olhão further east. You can explore historic old towns, fishing villages, waterfronts, street art, beaches and some of the Algarve’s less obvious corners along the way.
All Adventure Hunts are designed by someone who lives locally. This is an important part of what we do. We use interesting features, highlights and hidden gems that we have found locally to create the puzzles. They might use a building, statue, mural, sign, information plaque or something else that most people simply walk straight past.
Adventure Hunt combines elements of outdoor escape rooms, scavenger hunts and treasure trails. You don’t need any special knowledge. The answers are around you; you just need to look, think and sometimes pay attention to the smaller details.
The Adventure Hunt App guides you from one puzzle to the next without simply asking you to follow a dot on a map. Finding your way is part of the adventure. Hints are available if you get stuck, and the App runs on your own Android or iPhone, so there is no equipment to collect and no guide to meet.
Book online and start whenever you like. There are no fixed departure times and no tour group to join. Stop for a coffee, lunch, an ice cream or a trip to the beach and continue when you’re ready. There really is no need to rush.
Each booking covers a group of up to six people, although we recommend 2-4 so that everyone stays involved. Adventure Hunt is available in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch.
Alvor
Alvor is a great choice if you fancy exploring a traditional fishing village. The route follows the palm tree-lined riverfront before heading into the narrow streets of the old quarter, with views across the Odiáxere estuary along the way.
There are 20 puzzles spread over approximately 2 km. You’ll see the fishing huts, old castle ruins and church, as well as some of the village’s fishing heritage. Alvor is also a particularly good place to stop for seafood along the way – especially the locally produced oysters.

Lagos
There are two completely different Adventure Hunts in Lagos, each with its own route and puzzles.
The first explores the historic town. It takes you along the ancient city walls, through the busy streets and squares of the old town and around the harbourfront. If you want a general introduction to Lagos and some of its history, choose this one.
The second is all about street art. Lagos has some fantastic murals, including work by artists from across Europe. This Adventure Hunt takes you looking for everything from huge murals to small stencils and, of course, the puzzles make sure you actually look at the artwork rather than simply walking past it.
If you have time, do both. They show you two very different sides of Lagos.

Praia da Luz
Praia da Luz is a smaller and more relaxed option. The 2 km route follows the beachfront and then heads through the cobbled streets of the village, with 18 puzzles along the way.
You’ll see the beach, whitewashed houses, the distinctive Rocha Negra cliffs, the historic church and even some Roman remains. There are also plenty of places along the seafront to stop for lunch, a coffee or an ice cream.

Portimão
Portimão takes you away from the resort beaches and into the city itself. The approximately 2 km route explores the Ribeirinha waterfront and the older streets of Portimão.
Look for details amongst the marble statues along the promenade, decorative murals, historic buildings and churches. This is a good choice if you know Praia da Rocha but have never really explored Portimão itself.

Albufeira
There are two completely different Adventure Hunts in Albufeira.
De Old Town Adventure Hunt takes you through the beachfront area, winding streets, main square and clifftop promenade. It’s the one to choose if you want to explore the older side of Albufeira and enjoy some great sea views along the way.
De Strip Adventure Hunt couldn’t be much more different. This one explores Avenida Sá Carneiro and the streets around Albufeira’s famous nightlife area. Do it in the morning when everything is relatively quiet, or head out on a summer evening amongst the lights, music and busy bars.
Or do one during the day and the other in the evening!

Faro
Faro is the capital of the Algarve, but plenty of visitors fly into its airport and never actually explore the city.
The Adventure Hunt takes you from the medieval Cidade Velha and its cobbled streets to the shopping district, São Pedro and the palm-lined harbour. Along the way there is street art, interesting architecture, old city walls and even white storks nesting above the city.
If you’ve never stopped to explore Faro properly, this gives you a good reason to do it.

Olhão
Olhão has a character all of its own. The route starts by the ferry dock and explores the narrow lanes of the Fishermen’s Quarter, pedestrian streets and waterfront overlooking the Ria Formosa.
Look out for the town’s distinctive white cubist buildings, murals celebrating its fishing heritage and the sculptures along the Caminho das Lendas. The famous red-domed market is here too, and there are plenty of places to try some local seafood.

Quarteira
Quarteira combines a long beachfront and promenade with a busy traditional town. The Adventure Hunt takes you away from simply following the seafront and gets you looking more closely at the buildings, streets, public spaces and other details around the town.
It is a good choice if you are staying around Quarteira or nearby Vilamoura and want an outdoor activity that lets you explore at your own pace.

Which Algarve Adventure Hunt should you choose?
If you want a historic town, Lagos Old Town of Faro are good choices. For a smaller fishing village, try Alvor, while Praia da Luz gives you a compact seaside route with less walking.
For something a bit different, choose the Lagos Avonturenjacht op Straatkunst. In Albufeira, you can decide between the traditional Old Town and the very different atmosphere of the Strip. Portimão is a good excuse to explore the city rather than heading straight to Praia da Rocha, while Olhão is a great choice if you want to discover the Ria Formosa and a more traditional Algarve fishing town. Quarteira is a good choice if you want to combine a beachfront setting with exploring a traditional Algarve town.
Or simply start with whichever Adventure Hunt is closest to you. They are all designed around their individual locations, so if you enjoy one, try another. The puzzles and things you discover will be completely different.

Wat is Avonturenjacht Algarve?
Een Adventure Hunt is een interactieve ervaring die elementen van speurtochten, schatzoeken, wandeltochten en escape rooms combineert. Zie het als een zelf begeleide puzzelwandeling - waarbij sightseeing wordt gecombineerd met het oplossen van problemen, waardoor een eenvoudige wandeling een boeiende en inspirerende ervaring wordt.
Gebruik onze Adventure Hunt App (beschikbaar op zowel Android en iPhone) om je de weg te wijzen, herkenningspunten te vinden, puzzels op te lossen op elke locatie - met handige tips als je vast komt te zitten - en onderweg ‘leuke weetjes’ te ontdekken.
Waarom een Algarve Avonturenjacht?
Flexibiliteit: afspelen wanneer je maar wilt. Er is geen vaste begin-/eindtijd of datum.
Bepaal je eigen tempo: doe er zo lang over als je wilt. Het duurt meestal 1,5 tot 3 uur om het pad af te leggen (2 tot 3 km), maar er is geen tijdslimiet. Stop voor een snack, wat boodschappen of zelfs om te zwemmen.
Privé en onafhankelijk: Je bepaalt zelf de groepsgrootte en het aantal groepen. Je hoeft niet mee te lopen met anderen of een gids te volgen. We kunnen zelfs een teambuilding- of bedrijfsgroepservaring op maat voor je samenstellen.
Gezinsvriendelijk: Onze Hunts zijn ideaal voor iedereen vanaf 8 jaar. Specifieke kennis is niet nodig. De meeste hebben zelfs een ‘Familie’-optie.
Boeiend: creatief/logisch denken om de puzzels op te lossen en op zoek te gaan naar de details. Onze speurtochten moedigen je aan om een plek echt te ‘zien’, of het nu gaat om kleurrijke straatkunst, coole architectuur of een ongelofelijk uitzicht.
Verborgen juweeltjes: Ontdek de unieke plekjes buiten de gebaande paden en de hoogtepunten van een stad. Zelfs als je een regelmatige bezoeker bent, of een inwoner, zullen onze speurtochten je helpen om een plaats met een frisse blik te ervaren.
Activiteit voor alle weersomstandigheden: Bewolkte of regenachtige dag? Pak een paraplu en ga op jacht. Er zijn genoeg warme koffie- en gebakstops op onze paden.
Uitstekende waarde: slechts € 19,50 per groep - dat is minder dan € 5 per persoon voor een leuke familie-ervaring (aanbevolen groepsgrootte 2-4). Als je met een grote groep bent, raden we je aan je op te splitsen in teams van 4.

Waar kan ik een Algarve Adventure Hunt doen?
Onze Adventure Hunts zijn momenteel beschikbaar op de volgende locaties:
ALBUFEIRA OUDE STAD: Verken de oudste en grootste badplaats van de Algarve en combineer het traditionele met het moderne. De route neemt je mee door het bruisende gebied aan het strand, omhoog naar de oude stad, langs de promenade op de klif en door het centrale plein.

STROOK ALBUFEIRA: de ‘Strip’ is het kloppende hart van het nachtleven van de stad. Doe de route 's ochtends voor een rustigere ervaring, of op een zwoele zomeravond voor een achtergrond van discobeats en neonverlichte straten.

ALVOR: Alvor is een mooi vissersdorpje en een rustige badplaats aan de oevers van het estuarium en natuurreservaat van de Odiaxere. Het pad voert je langs de met palmbomen omzoomde rivier en omhoog naar de smalle, kronkelige straatjes van de oude wijk.
Hoogtepunten:
- traditionele vissershutten aan de waterkant
- restaurants waar de meest verse vis en zeevruchten uit de baai van Alvor worden geserveerd
- de oude wijk met de kasteelruïnes en de historische kerk
- prachtig uitzicht over de riviermonding
- natuurreservaat promenade, duinen en zwemmogelijkheden
LAGOS OUDE STAD: een van de mooiste en levendigste historische steden van de regio. Volg het pad langs de oude stadsmuren, door de levendige straten van de oude stad en langs de haven.
Hoogtepunten:
- onafhankelijke boetiekjes en galeries in de oude stad
- traditionele Portugese restaurants gemengd met trendy, luxe eetgelegenheden
- historische gebouwen met betrekking tot de ‘Eeuw van de Ontdekking’ van Portugal’
- schaduwrijke pleinen omringd door traditionele betegelde herenhuizen
LAGOS STRAATKUNST: Lagos staat bekend om zijn straatkunst, met name de reusachtige kleurrijke muurschilderingen die de muren van de stad sieren. Volg het pad langs de geplaveide straten van de stad om een aantal prachtige kunstwerken te ontdekken en meer te weten te komen over de kunstenaars die ze hebben geschilderd.
Hoogtepunten:
- meer dan 50 muurschilderingen en schilderijen van de beste stadskunstenaars van Europa
PORTIMAO: Portimao is een oude havenstad met een fascinerend industrieel erfgoed. Het pad volgt de felgeschilderde, betonnen ‘Toegankelijke Route’ door de oude wijk en langs de promenade, en is ideaal voor gebruikers van rolstoelen, kinderwagens of wandelwagens.
Hoogtepunten:
- industrieel erfgoed met betrekking tot het inblikken van sardines
- brede promenade met hedendaagse beeldhouwwerken
- felgekleurd toegankelijk pad
- traditionele taverna's die ‘petiscos’ (kleine gerechten) serveren
- Ooievaars op schoorstenen - heel veel!
PRAIA DA LUZ: Luz is een mooi kustplaatsje, onbedorven door toeristische ontwikkeling. Het pad leidt je langs de kust met cafés en restaurants en door de geplaveide straten van het dorp.
Hoogtepunten:
- Beschutte baai met zandstrand en rotspoelen
- mooie witgekalkte huizen bedekt met bougainvillea
- Rocha Negra, de zwarte klif, die boven het strand uittorent
- historische kerk en Romeinse ruïnes
Kunnen we een andere groep uitdagen?
Ja, het is een van de leuke manieren om mee te doen. Live scores zijn beschikbaar in de Adventure Hunt App. Je kunt de scores zien van iedereen die dezelfde speurtocht doet als jij op de pagina Clue Voltooid. Als je meerdere groepen hebt, neem dan contact met ons op en wij zorgen voor logins zodat al je groepen op hetzelfde moment kunnen beginnen, op verschillende puzzels.

Hoe het werkt
Klik op de knop ‘Nu boeken’ om te reserveren. Je krijgt dan een bevestigingsmail met je boekingsnummer, een link om de Adventure Hunt-app te downloaden en een link naar het startpunt. Je kunt de app vervolgens openen met je e-mailadres en boekingsnummer – je hoeft geen wachtwoord aan te maken of te onthouden.
Zodra je er klaar voor bent, ga je gewoon naar het startpunt en begin je aan je Adventure Hunt. De app leidt je van puzzel naar puzzel en ontgrendelt elke nieuwe uitdaging zodra je de vorige hebt opgelost. Als je onderweg wat hulp nodig hebt, zijn er voor elke puzzel hints beschikbaar. Je kunt stoppen wanneer je maar wilt om iets te drinken, bezienswaardigheden te bekijken of te winkelen, en je Adventure Hunt weer oppakken zodra je er klaar voor bent – zelfs de volgende dag als je dat wilt.

About Algarve
ABOUT THE ALGARVE
The Algarve is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal and one of the country’s best-known holiday destinations. It stretches for around 200km from the Spanish border in the east to Cabo de São Vicente in the west. Most people come for the sunshine and beaches, but there is a lot more packed into this relatively small region. Travel inland and the busy coastal resorts quickly give way to small towns, villages, farmland and mountains.
The Algarve has also had a lot of different influences over the centuries. Romans settled here, followed later by more than 500 years of Moorish rule. In fact, the name Algarve comes from the Arabic Al-Gharb, meaning “the west”. You can still see some of that influence in the whitewashed towns, old castles, narrow streets and even many of the place names used today.
MORE PLACES TO DISCOVER IN THE ALGARVE
Ria Formosa: Stretching for around 60km along the eastern Algarve, the Ria Formosa is a huge system of lagoons, salt marshes, channels and barrier islands. It is one of Portugal’s most important wetlands and a great place for birdwatching. You can explore it by boat from several towns along the coast or catch one of the local ferries out to the islands. Look out for flamingos, particularly outside the busiest summer months.
Tavira: Tavira is one of the prettiest towns in the eastern Algarve. The River Gilão runs straight through the centre, crossed by several bridges, with traditional tiled buildings, churches and the remains of a castle scattered around the old town. Tavira Island is just offshore and has a huge sandy beach which you can reach by ferry.
Silves: Head inland and the Algarve starts to look very different. Silves was once the Moorish capital of the region and its large red sandstone castle dominates the town from the top of the hill. There is also a cathedral next door and plenty of narrow streets to explore on the way up. Be warned though, some of them are quite steep!
Monchique: If you want a break from the beaches, head into the Serra de Monchique. This green, mountainous part of the Algarve feels a long way from the resorts on the coast, even though it really isn’t. The road climbs through forests and small villages towards Fóia, which at 902 metres is the highest point in the Algarve. On a clear day you can see a huge stretch of southern Portugal from the top.
Sagres and Cabo de São Vicente: The far western end of the Algarve feels wilder and more exposed. Huge cliffs meet the Atlantic around Sagres, and Cabo de São Vicente marks the southwestern tip of mainland Portugal. The lighthouse here sits above cliffs around 60 metres high. It can also get very windy, even when the rest of the Algarve is having a perfectly calm day.
Benagil and the Coastal Caves: The limestone coast of the central Algarve has been shaped into cliffs, arches, caves and small beaches. Benagil Cave is the most famous, with its large opening in the roof, but it is only one of many caves along this part of the coastline. Boat and kayak trips run from several nearby towns, with the coastline around Carvoeiro particularly impressive.
The Inland Algarve: Drive just a few kilometres away from the coast and you will find a side of the Algarve that many visitors never see. There are orange and almond orchards, cork oak forests, small villages and local markets, with walking routes running through the countryside. It is also generally much quieter than the coast, particularly during the busy summer months.
FOOD AND DRINK
It isn’t surprising that seafood features heavily on Algarve menus. Grilled sardines are a favourite, while cataplana is probably one of the region’s best-known dishes – usually seafood cooked with vegetables and herbs in a distinctive hinged copper pan. You will also find plenty of clams, octopus and locally caught fish.
Head inland and the food changes too, with more pork, sausages and dishes using locally grown produce. Oranges, figs and almonds are grown throughout the region and turn up in plenty of local cakes and desserts. And if someone offers you a medronho after dinner, be aware that this traditional fruit spirit is considerably stronger than it looks!
