With the Adventure Hunt app (available on Android and iPhone), you’ll follow clever clues, solve fun puzzles, and uncover surprising local stories and fascinating facts — with optional hints to keep you on track whenever you need them.
Beginning and ending near the Quarteira History Museum, this scenic 2.2km circular route guides you along the lively beachfront promenade, through the pretty pedestrian shopping streets, and into the peaceful backstreets of the old town.
Along the way, you’ll explore bustling local markets filled with regional produce, discover striking murals and sculptures that celebrate Quarteira’s rich fishing heritage and cultural diversity, and stumble upon plenty of inviting spots to eat, drink, and shop.
With 20 interactive stops to enjoy, the adventure typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete at your own pace. Convenient parking is available near the starting point, while the bus station is just a 15-minute walk away and the train station can be reached in around 15 minutes by taxi.

About Quarteira
Nestled on the central Algarve coast, Quarteira has grown from a small fishing settlement into one of the region’s most vibrant seaside towns, while still retaining its strong connection to the sea. Its history stretches back over 2,000 years, with nearby Roman ruins at Cerro da Vila bearing witness to a prosperous community that once thrived on fishing, agriculture, and trade. For centuries, Quarteira remained a modest village where fishermen launched colourful boats from the beach and supplied fresh catches to surrounding communities.
The town’s transformation began in the second half of the 20th century, when tourism brought new opportunities and helped shape the Quarteira visitors see today. Despite this growth, traces of its traditional character remain evident in the daily fish market, local cafés, and the enduring presence of the fishing fleet. The town’s name itself is believed to derive from the Arabic influence that shaped much of the Algarve during the Moorish period, reflecting the diverse cultures that have left their mark on the region.
One of Quarteira’s greatest attractions is its expansive Blue Flag beach, stretching for more than two kilometres along a palm-lined promenade that has become the social heart of the town. Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood overlooking the Atlantic, browse the popular weekly market, or explore the nearby Fonte Santa area, known for its natural springs since Roman times. The town also serves as an excellent base for discovering the Algarve, with the renowned Vilamoura Marina, championship golf courses, nature trails, and boat excursions all just minutes away.
