Adventure Hunt is a self-guided outdoor escape room through the historic streets of Palma. It is a cross between a walking tour, an escape room, and a scavenger hunt. Each puzzle is based on features you will find in plain sight. They might be murals, buildings, landmarks, water features, statues, play areas, or information boards. The questions are designed to make you think and pay attention, making for a fun group activity. Unlike a traditional walking tour, the puzzles encourage you to notice details that most visitors would simply walk past. Book online then start whenever you like. There are no guides or fixed departure times. Available in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch, with each booking covering a group of up to six people.

The Adventure Hunt app guides you between puzzles without simply asking you to follow a dot on a map, making the journey itself part of the adventure. The app runs on your own Android or iPhone, so there is no need to collect equipment or meet a guide before you start.

Explore entirely at your own pace. Stop whenever you like for a drink, a meal or to admire the sights, then continue whenever you're ready—even the next day if you wish. Hints are available for every puzzle, so you can always continue your adventure.

This adventure starts near Palma's historic Cathedral, under the shade of a giant rubber tree. From here, the route winds through the narrow streets and historic squares of the old town, taking in areas around Plaça de Cort, Plaça Major, La Rambla, Sant Miquel and the bustling Mercat de l'Olivar before looping back towards the Cathedral. Along the way you'll encounter grand avenues, hidden corners, statues, churches, historic buildings and some of the city's most characterful streets. It is just over 3km long and has 23 clues to solve along the way. Solving the clues will unlock the fascinating 2,000-year history of Palma, and sometimes its grisly secrets. It's almost flat, with only gentle gradients. It's a circular route, and you will finish just across the road from the starting point. The final section includes some short sections of stairway, which won't be suitable for wheelchair users, but it's possible to take a diversion that is step-free.

Adventure Hunt is ideal for friends, couples, families or colleagues. It is a great way to spend 1.5 to 2 hours—or longer if you stop along the way. Bring water, maybe a snack, and enjoy the journey at your own pace. If you prefer to enjoy some local food or refreshments along the way, you'll be in the perfect area of the city to do so, with restaurants and bars galore! To make sure everyone is engaged, we suggest groups of 2 to 4 participants. If your group is larger, split into smaller teams for a fun, friendly competition. Gather your friends or family, challenge your minds, and discover Palma, the historic capital of the Balearic Islands, in a brand new way. Adventure is waiting! Are you ready?

El Retiro FAQ

Is Adventure Hunt Palma a Walking Tour?

Adventure Hunt Palma is a walking tour for some people. If you are looking to see many of the main sights of the old town in Palma independently, learn a few interesting facts, and want to avoid being part of a larger group, then Adventure Hunt is a good option for you.  You will have complete flexibility to stop at all of the points of interest for as long as you like. Most of the places of interest have detailed information plaques outside so you can learn and read as much or as little as you like. You will also have some puzzles to solve to keep you entertained and challenged! The main difference between Adventure Hunt Palma and a traditional walking tour is that with Adventure Hunt, there are puzzles to solve, and the primary emphasis is on having fun. If you prefer in-depth historical information and/or a live guide, then a dedicated walking tour is better for you.

Is the Palma escape room experience suitable for families?

Yes, Adventure Hunt is great for families.

Is the Palma Adventure Hunt an escape room?

The Adventure Hunt is not an escape room, but it is a fun experience with similar challenges that need some teamwork and lateral thinking. It is very enjoyable for people who enjoy escape rooms. Everything takes place outside, at your own pace – there is no race against the clock. In fact, we encourage people to take a break for a drink, or something to eat and enjoy the lovely surroundings that the Adventure Hunt is set in.

Are the clues complicated?

This is a really difficult question! What we can say is that out of the 10 initial test groups, no single clue was found to be difficult by all groups.  Every group did find a couple to be quite challenging, but they were almost always different clues from the other groups.

So we can assure you that you are not faced with any impossible puzzles.

How do I win?

Having fun is winning so there is no need to be too focused on the score.   That said, Adventure Hunt has a scoring system, with each clue offering a maximum of 20 points.  Collect as many points as you do your Adventure Hunt and compete with friends and other groups.

Can we compete against another group?

Live scores are available within the Adventure Hunt App. You will be able to see the scores of everyone doing the same hunt as you on the Clue Completed page. We encourage a 10-minute break between groups.

Please contact us if you have multiple groups. We can put up a specific configuration so that all of your groups can start on separate clues at the same time.

Available in Multiple Languages

The Palma Adventure Hunt is available in English, Spanish, German, Dutch, French, Italian and Portuguese.

About El Retiro

Torrevieja is a vibrant coastal town on Spain’s Costa Blanca, in the province of Alicante, famed for its shimmering pink salt lagoons, golden beaches, and a maritime history that runs deep. Once a modest fishing and salt-producing settlement, it has blossomed into one of the most beloved destinations on this stretch of Mediterranean coast – all while holding tight to its traditional soul.

SALT, SEA AND SURVIVAL

Salt is in Torrevieja’s blood. Since 1777, it has been loaded from the town’s historic pier at Eras de la Sal, and the salt trade once carried Torrevieja’s name as far as Cuba – a connection still celebrated today through the Habanera, a haunting style of music sailors brought home, now honoured every year at the world-famous International Habaneras Competition.

In 1829, disaster struck: a catastrophic earthquake levelled much of the town, including the ancient watchtower – Torre Vieja – that gave Torrevieja its name. Yet the town rose again, and that story of resilience still echoes through its streets, monuments and coat of arms today.

A TOWN BUILT ON THE SEA

Wander Torrevieja’s seafront and you’ll stumble upon monuments to the fishermen, sailors and sailors’ wives who shaped this town’s maritime soul – from the Hombre del Mar, forever watching out to sea, to the women who waited faithfully on the shore for their return. The Dique de Levante breakwater and the town’s two marinas are living proof that the sea still runs through everything here, just as it always has.

Whether you’re seeing Torrevieja for the first time or you’ve called it home for years, the Adventure Hunt is your chance to uncover the layers of history hiding in plain sight – and see the town through completely new eyes.
