Puerto de la Cruz FAQ
Is Adventure Hunt Puerto de la Cruz an escape room?
Adventure Hunt Puerto de la Cruz is not an escape room. It is a fun experience with similar challenges and is enjoyable for people who enjoy escape rooms or solving puzzles. Everything takes place outside, at your own pace – there is no race against the clock. In fact, we encourage people to take a break for a drink or something to eat and enjoy the lovely surroundings that the Adventure Hunt is set in.
The real similarity is that the puzzles require a degree of teamwork and lateral thinking.
Escape rooms provide an immersive experience with a story and an end goal. Adventure Hunt does not have a story or end goal as you progress, and we allow the surroundings to provide the immersion.
Is Adventure Hunt a walking tour of Puerto de la Cruz?
The Adventure Hunt in Puerto de la Cruz visits many of the same locations as you would see on a guided walking tour. But Adventure Hunt is not a replacement for a walking tour, as we do not try to provide historical or artistic information. Our goal is a fun experience in an interesting location. You are of course always free to stop and read all of the signs and plaques as you pass along our route as there is never any time pressure. If you are looking to learn about the town in detail then we recommend a walking tour.
Is This New Puerto de la Cruz escape room experience suitable for families?
Yes, Adventure Hunt is great for families, and we mean that in the widest possible sense. Grandparents and children alike will enjoy Adventure Hunt.
are the clues complicated?
This is a really difficult question! What we can say is that out of the 10 initial test groups, no single clue was found to be difficult by all groups. Every group did find a couple to be quite challenging, but they were almost always different clues from the other groups.
So we can assure you that you are not faced with any impossible puzzles.
How do I win?
Having fun is winning so there is no need to be too focused on the score. That said, Adventure Hunt has a scoring system, with each clue offering a maximum of 20 points. Collect as many points as you do your Adventure Hunt and compete with friends and other groups.
Can we compete against another group?
Live scores are available within the Adventure Hunt App. You will be able to see the scores of everyone doing the same hunt as you on the Clue Completed page. We encourage a 10-minute break between groups.
Please contact us if you have multiple groups. We can put up a specific configuration so that all of your groups can start on separate clues at the same time.
About Puerto de la Cruz
The city’s origins date back to the early 16th century. It existed in 1502 as a coastal port, and as the dependent population center of La Orotava. In 1603 a church and its corresponding square were built.
It was originally a fishing village that grew as local trade was increasing. The port became the most important on the island when a volcano eruption destroyed Garachico in 1706. The sugar trade gave way to wine, resulting in large-scale social and economic development.
In the mid-17th century, the inhabitants began to express their desire to form their own community, receiving the Royal Provision of Felipe IV on 3 May 1651, which empowered them to appoint a village head.
It belonged to the municipality of La Orotava, and in 1772, a municipal corporation was elected by the residents. It was known as Puerto de La Orotava, and it was not until 1808 that it obtained full municipal autonomy, changing its name to the current Puerto de la Cruz.
Tourism began to have an important role in the local economy in the late 19th century. It was in those years that the Grand Hotel Taoro was built and that old family houses began to be remodelled, for example as Marquesa or Monopol, transforming them into the first hotels in the city center. Finally, the real tourism boom came in the 1950s, when the city began its transformation into the tourist reference point of the island and of the archipelago.
