Alicante is more than a gateway to the Costa Blanca’s beaches. This vibrant Mediterranean city has a hilltop castle, a lively old town, palm-lined promenades, and a surrounding province full of charming coastal towns worth exploring. Whether you are here on a week-long holiday, a city break, or as part of a corporate team building event, there is plenty to keep you entertained.

What makes the Alicante area particularly interesting for visitors is the variety within a short distance. In under an hour you can move from a bustling city centre to a quiet fishing village, from a beachfront boardwalk to a mountain greenway, from a historic old quarter to a vibrant street art neighbourhood.

Adventure Hunt has more locations in the Alicante province than anywhere else — eight different routes covering the city and surrounding towns. This guide covers the best activities in the area, with links to the specific routes you can book.

Alicante City Centre

The city itself is the obvious starting point. The Explanada de España promenade, with its iconic wave-patterned marble tiles, runs along the waterfront and is the heart of the city. From here you can look up at the Castillo de Santa Bárbara, perched on Mount Benacantil, accessible by lift from near the beach.

The Alicante City Adventure Hunt takes you through the city centre, starting near the town hall and passing through the famous “mushroom street” (Calle de las Setas), several plazas and parks, and ending at the lesser-known Parque del Mar. The route has 22 clues across 2.4 km.

For a deeper dive into the historic heart of the city, the Alicante Old Town Adventure Hunt is a more intensive route through the labyrinthine streets of the Casco Antiguo. It passes 8 free museums, 4 landmark houses, 4 churches, several plazas, a tower, and even a secret underground bunker. This route includes 23 clues across 2.4 km and involves some stairs due to the hilltop location. It starts and ends at the town hall.

Nature and Outdoors

Not everything in Alicante involves city streets. Two of the Adventure Hunt routes take you into greener, more open settings.

The Parque Palmeral Adventure Hunt follows the coastline from Alicante towards the Albufereta area, combining magnificent sea views with the city’s palm groves. If you enjoy walking with a view, this is the route for you. After completing it, you can easily take a tram back from Albufereta to the city centre.

The Via Verde Adventure Hunt follows the seafront promenade and a former railway line, making it completely flat and fully wheelchair accessible. Only one puzzle requires a slight modification, which is clearly explained in the app. If you are looking for an activity that everyone in your group can enjoy regardless of mobility, this is the one.

Coastal Towns Worth Exploring

The Costa Blanca’s charm lies in its smaller towns, each with its own character.

San Juan is Alicante’s beach suburb, known for its long sandy beach and relaxed atmosphere. The Adventure Hunt here explores the town beyond the tourist strip.

Campello is a quieter residential town north of Alicante, easily reached by the coastal tram line. Its Adventure Hunt takes you through the town centre and waterfront.

Santa Pola sits south of Alicante, with a salt-lake nature reserve famous for flamingos and a working fishing port. The ferries to the island of Tabarca depart from here.

Villajoyosa — known locally as La Vila — is famous for its colourful waterfront houses, its beaches, and its chocolate-making tradition. Just a short tram ride from Benidorm, it is a delightful contrast to its larger neighbour. The Adventure Hunt here explores the outdoor escape room experience through murals, cultural elements, and features hiding in plain sight.

Accessibility

If accessibility matters to your group, Alicante is one of the best-served areas. The Via Verde route follows flat, paved paths along a former railway line and the seafront, making it suitable for wheelchair users, pushchairs, and anyone with limited mobility. The Torremolinos Seafront route in the Málaga area is similarly flat and accessible.
